HOD Message
The Department of Archaeology provides the foundation on the deeper Psychological insights innate to the Civilizations, Cultures, Heritage and Strong ethical values which enrich and enlighten the student's personality with Self Respect, Peace, Loyalty and Patriotism. Our aims at all round growth and development of student's Personality which comprises of Physical, Emotional, Psychological, Spiritual and Intellectual faculties. It charts out broad outlines which make a smooth transition into a new educational paradigm where both teacher and the taught venture into an experiential journey of self discovery, rich with life changing insights for a pragmatic approach to life. It inspires and rekindles deepest aspirations and restores faith in our ideals by showing the way towards realization and fulfillment. Archaeology is the scientific study of past cultures and the way people lived, based on the things they left behind. It is a sub-field of anthropology, the study of all human culture. Archaeology links with many subjects, including geography, history, social sciences, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, art, religion, and technology. It is very important to understand the life stories of people who live long ago. Archaeology helps us understand not only where and when people lived on the earth, but also why and how they have lived, examining the changes and causes of changes that have occurred in human cultures over time. Introduction
History: The Department of Archaeology was established in August 2008 under the umbrella of the School of Cultural Heritage and Creative Technologies, Hazara University, Mansehra. Main Objectives: The chief aims of the establishment of the department of archaeology are; 1. To impart quality education both at undergraduate and graduate levels 2. To explore the rich archaeological heritage of the country in general and of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in particular 3. To contribute to the research repute of the university 4. To promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region. Achievements: The Department of Archaeology runs post-graduate (PhD, M.Phil and MA) and undergraduate (BS - four years) programmes in Archaeology courses with the number of students growing in each academic session. Recently, department has launched 2-year Master degree programme and a 6- month Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Cultural Heritage Management in collaboration with University of Leicester (UK). The Department of Archaeology is the leading research department of the Hazara University and has been contributing tremendously to the academic repute of the university. The Department is constantly growing in stature and is heavily engaged in research activities with international universities and organizations.
